Woman Decides To Advocate For Herself After Her Toxic Fiancé Repeatedly States That They Aren't Equals: ‘I won’t tolerate the disrespect’
Finding a partner who views you as an equal should be the bare minimum. In this day and age, these outdated gender roles serve no positive purpose to women. Of course, ladies should be able to choose to be a stay-at-home wife or mom for themselves, without a man deciding their fate for them. Women fought long and hard to be viewed as equally powerful human beings, so seeing stories like this simply solidifies that some people still internalize outdated values. If you stay at home and tend to the house, that makes you no less than your male partner. If you contribute financially and do the housework, you are most definitely not "less than."
The original poster (OP) of this story moved in with her fiancé a year ago because he had asked her to, and specified that she could quit her job and take care of their now-shared condo. OP states that after a few months, the fiancé quit his job and expected her to get a job to make up the difference. The fiancé then started bringing up dangerous discourse that suggested they were not equals because she doesn't contribute enough financially, despite covering a $530 HOA monthly fee, and a $230 electric bill, in addition to cleaning the house. OP expresses that the only way for her to be considered his equal, in the fiancé's mind, is to spend as much money as he does. She decides enough is enough.
